The Re:Freshed Orchestra

The Re:Freshed Orchestra is a Rotterdam based funk, soul & hiphop collective of 16 young performers (strings, brass, vocals and rhythm) with expansive musical and cultural backgrounds, who share a passion for tearing up a stage.

The career of the Re:Freshed Orchestra started in 2011 with setting up a tribute series for different musical heroes of the ensemble, such as Quincy Jones, Nina Simone, J Dilla, Fela Kuti, Gil Scott-Heron, Sly & The Family Stone, The Wu-Tang Clan, Guru and Jay-Z. From this came the ‘Re:Encore’ EP.

The album was an attempt to give tribute and a new breath of appreciation to the music of rapper and entrepreneur Jay-Z, given the distinct taste of the Orchestra’s own edits and arrangements. The EP (2012) made them take off through 3FM’s Giel Beelen, the Noorderslag festival and North Sea Jazz, where they were soon recognized as one of the year’s festival season absolute highlights. Yet the group wanted more and decided to write fully original material. The process turned into a two years rite of passage, in which the collective reinvented itself from the bottom up.

In March of 2016 the Re:Freshed Orchestra released the long awaited debut album on the renowned Hip Hop label Top Notch. Also during this year they’ve been the house band of ‘DINO’, Jandino Asporaat’s late night talk show. They’ve also had the honor of bringing music to the ‘13, ‘14 and ‘15 broadcasts of the ‘Uitmarkt’. The band also shared the stage with Pete Philly, Zap Mama, Benjamin Herman, Bo Saris and Tony Allen

Words don't say enough in this case, so come to see this band live.
